What has Tony Blair done for Britain?
I'm interested in compiling a list of Tony's achievements since getting into power. Please add as you wish by contacting me here. I'll kick it off:
The first suicide bombings in London, sorry - Britain, happened under his watch
Britain, along with the US, started an illegal war under his watch. This was against the wishes of a large portion of the people of Britain, and in contravention of International Law.
He lied to Parliament to get approval for this war.
Men (Greg Dyke/Robin Cook) lost their jobs because they disagreed with him even though they have subsequently been proved correct.
The public doesn't know why David Kelly died, but the facts are: 1) He made a public statement that was in conflict with what the government was saying (this statement was proved correct: 45 minute missiles were not a threat) 2) He was found dead, mysteriously, before he could say any more.
His government brought a new meaning to spin-doctoring, stooping to such low levels to win votes that they fabricated walkabouts for their election videos to appear more popular than they are.
Unemployment is down - but people in the Government's employ are at a high. THIS MEANS: Taxes are funding a low employment rate. (Britain's not actually getting richer)
Due to artificially low interests rates causing a housing bubble, people have more money to spend creating the illusion that Britain is getting richer. It's not rocket science: BRITS ARE SELLING HOUSES TO EACH OTHER! Britain's not actually getting richer.
Manufacturing jobs
- read: Private Sector - are getting fewer (e.g. MG Rover). Again, Britain's not actually getting richer.
Pensions are in crisis. So, here's a question: There's an old lady, who doesn't have a house to sell, all her money is in savings (earning artificially low interest - i.e. below inflation*) and her pension has been used to fund a war she didn't want. How is she supposed to enjoy her twilight years?
*The government figure for inflation is wrong. It can't be right. In the five years I've been in Britain, Council tax in Wandsworth went up from £30 to £50 (67%) a month, bus fares went from £0.70 to £1.20 (71%) a trip, a zone 1 weekly travel card went from £15.30 to £18.50 (21%) and a one bed flat went up 70%. What's the official inflation figure again? 2%? Whatever.
TONY LIES AND HE SUCKS!
RECENT ADDITION FROM AN OBSERVANT READER:
Under Tony, we started imprisoning people without trial again.
Welcome to the dark ages
