How can Luton and Stansted be considered London
airports?
I give you this from Luton's own
website
London Luton Airport, closer than you think:
* Central London: 32 miles
* North London: 30 miles
* Milton Keynes: 25 miles
* Birmingham: 90 miles
* Oxford: 50 miles
* Cambridge: 35 miles
* Bedford: 22 miles
Thanks. Two points here:
1. It's closer to Bedford.
2. Even that isn't close. (It's close on a
marathon!)
For the record, per the RAC route planner, it's
39.1 miles from my house which is in London, zone 2!
Performing the same test for Stansted is
interesting. I notice that on
their site, they aren't so quick to give the distance from central London.
So I checked myself. 38.66 miles. To put this in perspective, Dover is 21 miles
from France.
More than once I've paid more for my train ticket
to and from the airport than the flight itself! What's that all about?
One more thing: if I was, say, a Belgian, and I
brought my family to London for a weekend and we ended up in Luton, I'd be
pretty acid.
