Thanks for your response to my previous question which has, quite unexpectedly, raised a related gripe (the spelling of the word favour in paragraph three).
Why do Americans spell the word favour, "favor" (need I list countless other examples)?

Leesie's comment: Kietz, this is a good gripe. My apologies for spelling that like a moron. I have been found out. Ah, the evils of the cut-and-paste function.... The truth is, I don't know. Maybe it's to make their spelling bees easier. I say each to their own. What I find quite rude though, is when I type an English word into some programme (note the "me" after "program") and Microsoft tells me to spell it some other way. No, Bill Gates, you spell like you want - I'm not arguing with
$90 billion - but please, in England we speak English and haemoglobin is haemoglobin whether you put that goddamn red zigzag underneath it or not!
