Why is it that whenever there are more than three tourists in a place, some South American dude with his wife and child have to set up an amp. and blast that godforsaken pipe music through everyone's brain while trying to flog their home-made CD?
If you've ever travelled in Europe, you'll know what I mean. They also have the same repertoire, viz:
- All of ABBA, but mostly "Chiquitita" and "Fernando"
- Don't Cry for Me Argentina
- My Heart Will Go On (Titanic)
- Sounds of Silence
My other question takes two parts, really....
1 - Who buys this crap? I can vaguely understand getting swept up with emotion while in Lima, or possibly anywhere in Latin America, but what goes on in people's heads that makes them think, "Ooh, I know a great way for us to remember this holiday in Cambridge: let's buy some of that soothing pipe music!" Do they go home and tell their friends they bought the sounds of Cambridge off some locals?
I mean, why don't they buy a Morris dancing video? It will be as enjoyable.
2 - Do they actually, honestly listen to this when they get home? The only time I can think this would be worth putting on is when some particularly annoying family members have come around for dinner and refuse to leave.
